Houston, Texas

Winter 2018/2019 in Houston, Texas. Hotel Alessandra and the Kemah Bay house.

This is definitely a post i’ve been meaning to make for a while. My very first trip to visit the city of Houston, Texas and to see my partners hometown.

I stayed at Hotel Alessandra, in the heart of downtown Houston. This is a fairly new boutique hotel that took hospitality and luxury to the next level. As you enter, the valet takes your car and the doorman reveals a beautiful hotel embellished in deep emerald velvet and gold. The room itself had a bathtub, which if you push the walls uncovers the rest of the room. They also have a complementary car service, which happened to be a Maserati, with a sharply dressed driver to take you anywhere in town.

Just southeast of Houston is Kemah, Texas. Kemah is a charming little boardwalk owned by the Landry’s Corporation. There is waterfront dining, shopping, amusement park rides, and my partner’s family home.

The homes in this area seem to all be standing on 14ft stilts. I have come to learn that this is for storms and possible flooding since it is so close to the water. It was interesting to see how the locals utilize the space underneath as a parking port and/or storage areas.

On holidays and in the summer, there is fireworks on the boardwalk and boat parades, overall a lovely place to stay and entertain. Houston is such a melting pot of cultures and lifestyles, you can be in the city one minute in a Maserati and just a few hours away you can visit the Bluebell Ice Cream Factory, a local farm, or the Kemah Boardwalk.
